There is just one moon and one golden sun, And a smile means small dogs to everyone.

booboo.jpg

I want to alert everyone to some very important information posted by Lana Elswick, the owner of Boo Boo (seen above), the World’s Small Living Dog in Height. Yesterday, I posted that Brandy was crowned the new World’s Smallest Living Dog, this is only partially true! Brandy Has won the award for the World’s Smallest Living Dog in LENGTH, not HEIGHT! Boo Boo reigns supreme. Sorry Boo Boo, I didn’t mean to offend! And, thanks Lana for writing in and making that correction. In other Boo Boo news, her visit to the Boyd County Public Library had to be postponed, due her upcoming appearance on tomorrow morning’s Today Show!

Though this record looks like it was given out in 2005, Brandy is the new world’s smallest dog? This record seems to change every month. Poor Boo Boo and Ducky.

In an attempt to be small, a fat dog looses half his weight. It’s not easy being small. Maybe your dog should join the “PetFit Challenege.”

I failed to mention in yesterday’s post that the Hungarian scientist who says computers can help dogs communicate, actually has written a program that can translate dog barks into human language, I just wanted to clarify. This work could harm French’s status as the language of love. Je t’aime small dogs. Je t’adore small dogs. Veux-tu m’épouser small dog?

A sign stating “Small Dog Recreation” at a dog park in Tuscon, Arizona has the community in an uproar. Community memeber, and large dog owner, George Reiblich said, “Oh no, they can’t do that. Oh, my God, they’re turning it into a small-dog park!” The horror! The tragedy! Reiblich went on to say, “It’s quite a beautiful sign; it really is…We think it probably means it’s a small park, not that it’s for small dogs.” Don’t be a hater George!

A man in Texas, with a small dog on his lap, led police on a “mostly low speed pursuit.” The man and his 12-year old dog were both taken into custody.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s vicious hawk trying to attack and kill Janie Flores Chihuahua Tico. Sadly, Tico is in critical condition, unable to move his back legs and may have suffered irreversible neurological damage. Poor Tico. This kind of thing is becoming epidemic.

Dear ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, large dogs and small dogs:

What a funny thing life is sometimes, dragging us away from the things, people and small dogs we love. I hope my absence didn’t come across as negligence, and I hope it wasn’t too shocking. After many months, this post is long overdue. So, without further ado, I present to you…

Some troubling news out of the UK, apparently, dog owners actually prefer bite sized dogs. How many times do I have to plead with people that it’s NOT okay to eat small dogs! News like this is indeed very troubling.

oneeyedwillie.jpg
via Missoulian

I search high and low for stories like this, the story of Rusty, a one eyed Pomeranian, who participated in the Mutt Pull at this past weekend’s Seeley Lake Sled Dog Races in Montana. The Missoulian newspaper reports that in true stage mom fashion, Rusty’s owner, Elizabeth Loudon said, “Rusty’s greatest feat so far in life had been sitting on the couch…This will be the most athletic thing that he’s done…We hope he doesn’t embarrass us.”

In praise of Yorkshire Terriers…” Darlene Arden says, “They look like little gift-wrapped presents and they have so much presence.” No pun intended, none whatsoever.

I can’t believe I missed this human canine fashion show in Japan!

Shame on the dog owners who ruined this woman’s Christmas holiday!

Hey Mr. DJ put a record on, I want to dance with my small dog.

The late Leona Helmsley’s dog Trouble, might be in a bit of trouble herself. On the scene correspondent Steve (thank you Steve for your reporting in on this) wrote me today indicating that Trouble, the dog heiress to $12 million, has been targeted with death threats and is presently hiding out in Florida. The NY Post reports that, under an assumed name, Trouble was flown by private jet to Florida after receiving approximately 20 death threats. “John Codey, who manages the dog’s trust fund, told US television network CBS last week the cost of Trouble’s security, medical care, chef-cooked meals and grooming was about $300,000 (£145,000) a year.” This is a scandalabra! Totally turning in her grave…

If you are looking for that extra something for that special someone for the holidays how about some “eau de chien?” And, if you can’t make up your mind, this handy guide on how to choose good dog colognes might help.

With the holiday season upon us, small dog thievery has become an epidemic. In Ada County, Idaho, over the past 10 days, 6 Yorkshire terriers have turned up missing!

Speaking of 6…a 6 pawed puppy has turned up in Hong Kong. He was due to be destroyed until a vet rescued him. Nicknamed, the octopus, the pup will undergo surgery to remove the extra paws. The Hong Kong Dog Rescue is looking for someone to adopt him once the surgery is complete. I’ll take an octodog and make it snappy!

The music biz have so much free time and expendable cash on their hands that they decided to make a disc that’s music to dog’s ears. The track entitled, A Very Silent Night, “was recorded as an SPCA fundraiser at the highest frequency possible on CD, so only dogs can hear it…The single, which has been picked up by Universal and was released yesterday, will be accompanied by a music video – styled on Snoop Dogg’s Drop It Like It’s Hot and Scribe’s Not Many – featuring rapper Dei Hamo, who plays Santa. The video, with 14 dogs and models dressed as elves, is also inaudible to humans with subtitles asking viewers to buy the CD “so they don’t end up in the dog house.” Absolute genius.

I hope every one had a wonderful holiday full of small dog love.

So this is old news now, but Michael Vick has headed off to jail to get a jump start on his prison term. He spent Thanksgiving at the Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw, Va. and enjoyed a pretty tradish meal of turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rice and sweet potato pie. He is scheduled to be officially sentenced on December 10. Big money Michael, come on big money! Stop on $400 and a trip to the Bahamas.

Willie Nelson recently recorded a spot for tv supporting an anti-dogfighting bill in Georgia. Meanwhile, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kelly Ripa and Nathan Lane are helping to raise awareness for puppy mills this holiday. A press release issued by the US Humane Society says that these stars are not putting puppy mill cruelty on their holiday gift list. Dear Santa, I’ll take a baker’s dozen of small dogs, hold the puppy mill cruelty.

The small dog revolution will not be televised.

sadsmalldog.jpg

via Dog & Puppy Central

It certainly won’t be televised and, with the state of things, it may not even get blogged about. I wish I could blame my absence on the writers’ strike, or even the stagehands’ strike, but, I regret to inform, due to unfortunate circumstances, (aka a job), I have been forced to scale back operations for the time being.

Please continue to send in small dog moments of brilliance, this site would not be possible without you (and small dogs) especially during times like these.

Small dogs come to those who wait.

Dear friends…my dearest, sweetest friends:

What is going on in the world? Time has fallen back, the writers are striking and Smalldogarific is nowhere to be found. I feel as though I am letting you (and small dogs) down. I hope this post will make up for my negligence. Just remember though, if we don’t stand together we stand alone! In solidarity. In answer to your question Steve, Smalldogarific is now on an indefinite hiatus until the writer’s hug out their differences. Okay that’s not true, but I would like to extend a big thanks to all my adoring readers have stepped in to make today’s posting possible,

Like, this gem, that Steve himself sent in!

And, Michele, sent me this mind-blowing blog featuring puppy jewelry. That’s Cupcake modeling the “Earth Dog” line. The necklace even features a vegan “leather” cord! I agree Michele, Cupcake DOES look good in that necklace.

Friends don’t let friends with children get small dogs.

A man on a Virgin Atlantic flight from Chicago to London’s Heathrow broke out in song to muffle the barks of a small dog that he smuggled onto the flight. “A Virgin worker said: “We thought we had a drunk on our hands because he was singing so loudly. But he was just trying to drown out the sound of his dog.”” The pup was permitted to run up and down the aisles during the flight.
